|10th Albania Rally: Dramatically changes in bikes and cars in Friday´s SS 05.|
Friday´s 5th stage of the 10th "Albania Rally" was not only long - the stage also brought some dramatically changes in the overall rankings - in the bikes like in the cars. In the cars, the overall leader Misha / Mati (Albania) rolled their Jeep Cherokee in the stage and had to let pass nearly all competitors. "Shit happens," Misha commented cool in the evening after the stage.
Nobody was injured and they could finish, but: The Jeep-crew lost their lead and finally became 8th in the overall ranking. New leader are now the "abonnement-winners" Renti Sina and Dolly Wittberger (Albania/Austria) with their new built Toyota Land Cruiser and 18:55:44 hours. Second overall are now the Albanians Dervishaj / Papuli in their funny blue LILU 2 prototype with a gap of 34:31 minutes.
Also Thursday´s stage winner Dechent / Hinz (Germany) in their Polaris SSV - first time in Albania - had bad luck. After a small crash they couldn´t finish inside the top 10 - and lost their 3rd overall position with +01:44:37 hours to their German team-mate Henrik Strasser (Toyota Proto, +01:13:08), who finished second in the daily rankings. Good news for the German team: Also Joerg Neese in the second German Toyota Land Cruiser is now in the top 5 (+03:31:38).
Also in the bikes we saw a strong fight for the overall lead between the leader Ondrej Klimciw (Husqvarna, Czech Republic), Andrea Cosentino (KTM, Italy) and his compatriot Christian Pastori (Beta). It was Cosentino who took the stagewin in 03:01:40 hours, 12:49 mins faster than the Italian Massimo Prazzoli (KTM 350EXC) and 14:03 minutes in front of the Dutchman Maikel Maikel (Husaberg).
Klimciw finished fourth with +15:58 mins - that was enough for Italian and former Albania-winner Cosentino to catch the overall lead with 16:25:52 hours, only 4:37 minutes in front of the Czech Klimciw and 21:51 minutes before Christian Pastori. The top 5 were completed by Massimo Prazzoli (+48:35) and the Slovak Boris Vlha (Yamaha, +57:15).
It will be exciting, even if the last stage on Saturday is only 20 kilometers in timed section. This is normally too short for big changes, even if there are only some minutes between the leaders...but you never know...
