 | Dakar Rally 2013 TICKER: Sainz/Gottschalk first 2013 winner in the cars.
|
Carlos Sainz (Spain) and his navigator Timo Gottschalk (Germany) with their Buggy are the first stage winner of the 2013 Dakar Rally in the cars category. They won with 07:40 minutes in front of Alvarez / Grau (ARG/ARG, Toyota Hilux, 07:48), Chicherit / Garcin (France, SMG-Buggy, 07:50), Al Attiyah / Cruz (Qatar/Spain, Buggy, 07:50) and Chabot / Pillot (France, SMG Buggy, 07:52).
The Top 10 are completed with last year´s winner Peterhansel / Cottret from France (Mini, 08:14), the Mini-crew Holowczyc / Palmeiro (PL/PT, 08:14), the Russians Novitskiy / Zhiltsov (X-raid Mini, 8:14), De Villiers / von Zitzewitz (RSA/D) in their Toyota Hilux (08:15) and Roma / Perin (Spain, Mini, 08:17).
On midday the participants started with the official start ceremony in Lima. Today's prologue-stage was 263 km long - a 250 km linking section and a 13 km special in the environs of Pisco. These early dune stages are gruelling and could very well witness dramatic turns of events in an edition which the leading pundits expect to be amazing.
183 motorcycles, 38 quads, 153 cars and 75 trucks were officially cleared to start the 2013 Dakar this morning. At 449 vehicles, this edition's contingent is slightly bigger (six vehicles) than the last one's.
