Africa Eco Race: Metge´s Rally starts from Portimão

| |
| The 2010 Africa Eco Race will start this year from the Algarve, the magnificent region at the south of Portugal. Portimão, a seaside resort known for one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, will host the technical and administrative scrutineering. A city with strong sporting roots, Portimão’s affinity for motorsport is clear thanks to its superb circuit, the « Autódromo Internacional do Algarve », where various high-level events – on two wheels or four – take place. A guarantee that plenty of true fans in the area will be delighted to welcome the teams taking part in the Africa Eco Race 2010.
TV Distribution for the 2010 edition…
Many European TV channels will show daily updates from the race. In France,
our TV partners, Direct 8 et Sport+, will broadcast daily programmes (with the
best moments of the day) as well as weekly summaries. Portugal, Spain, Italy,
Poland and Belgium have also already confirmed programmes.
Sand, navigation, driving skills…the 2010 route will be… magical!
Having finalized the route of the 2010 Africa Eco Race with Jose Maria Servia, René Metge is back, with a big smile on his face and a glint in his eyes… Some signs do not lie, ‘King René’ has concocted a route with a thousand and one different aspects, a 2010 vintage that will go down in the competitors’ memories. The stages are full of new features, with a route that will be challenging, needing plenty of driving and navigational skills. No less than 65% will be over sand, reducing the rough ground to a minimum.
Ever heard of Mrhimina, Greid Lareich, Tabrenkout or Tenadi? Well, the 2010 Africa Eco Race will take you there, along breath-taking routes. Despite the thousands of kilometers he has covered during his life, René Metge continues to be amazed by the beauty of the African continent…
«I am totally satisfied with the route we have drawn up. We have managed a good balance between navigation and driving, on routes which are sometimes surprising. Our aim was to balance the length and the difficulty of the legs, while reducing the length of the liaison sections and by arranging for many special stages to start or finish straight at the bivouacs. In the Moroccan sector, and more especially in the north of the country, we tried to reduce the rough sectors as much as possible.
Over the total route, approximately 65% of the timed stages will take place over sand and in the
dunes. I must admit that we have crossed some extraordinary scenery… Africa remains Africa, and
will always be able to make you dream. From Nador to Dakar, once again, the competitors will be
able to check that is true… »
