Team FJ recently had the pleasure of celebrity motorbike rider Charlie Boorman visiting the Co-Drivers seat of the Toyota FJ Cruiser for run out in the Dubai Desert.
Visiting Dubai for a speaking engagement, the "Long way Round" actor, writer and well known motorbike enthusiast expressed his desire to experience Dubai’s Deserts from the seat of a race car. This was happily arranged by Team FJ, who also took the opportunity to test the new shortened front end of the race car.
Driving approx 90km to the iconic Fossil Rock, along with another rally car, Ian Barkers Nissan Patrol, the trip started well but almost became terminal when the Nissan Patrol got stuck - firmly impaled on a boulder on the side of Fossil Rock.
An attempt to dig the boulder out of the sand was quickly abandoned. Due to the incline of the hill the Nissan Patrol could not be towed up and out. Eventually, Team FJ Driver David Mabbs clever use of trolley jacks and a mighty tug backwards and the Nissan Patrol was out.
Team FJ had a fantastic time in the desert with Boorman, and his accompanying friend Billy Ward, who kept the entire party amused with his running commentary of funny stories.
