|Aïcha des Gazelles: Elisabete Jacinto accomplished after astonishing final|
Elisabete Jacinto finished her fifth participation at the rallye "Aïcha des Gazelles", a "women´s only" adventure rally in Morocco. The Portuguese driver always topped the race from the very first day, but a mechanical difficulty experienced during the last stage stopped her from winning the rally.
The hardness of the course, which took place mostly on dunes, was fatal for many teams including Elisabete Jacinto and Valérie Dot with their Volkswagen Amarok Pickup that, when surprised by a problem in the engine, completed the race in the 11th position.
The marathon journey in Erg Cheggaga was very tricky for the first classifieds. Both suffered mechanical setbacks that blocked their expectations of victory. The french Carole Montillet, who was second, gave up to complete the stage and, therefore, didn’t finish the competition.
Elisabete Jacinto, despite the setback, was satisfied with the work done throughout the competition. "The Aicha des Gazelles went well and within my goals. A few kilometers from the end an ordinary mechanical incident stole us our victory. Losing like this is a bit frustrating, mainly because we have been in first place since the beginning of this long and exhausting race."
She added: "I would you like to leave a special thanks to Volkswagen Véhicules Utilitaires and recognition to Valérie Dot by her good job at navigation and camaraderie" said the portuguese pilot at the end of the competition.
The Rallye ended another edition. The biggest navigation rally in the world - and that is 100% feminine - returns next year to Morocco for another adventure. To find more information on all participating teams please visit [ RALLYEAICHADESGAZELLES.COM ].
