ABSA 2007: Ford Carnival City 400 Rally aiming high.

The organisers of the Ford Carnival City 400 on November 30 and December 1 are once again aiming to upstage other organising clubs on the Absa Off Road Championship calendar. The Koepel Club is hoping the event, traditionally the final race of the season, will draw the biggest entry of the season. And with important title issues outstanding, including the overall Special Vehicle championship, the club is expecting the race to again produce big crowds.

"The majority of off road competitors live in the Gauteng area," said chief organiser Willie Prinsloo. "We are hoping that numbers of regional competitors, put off by the costs of national events and long travel distances, will take advantage of an event on their doorstep. The route is not a car breaker and offers a fair challenge. We are hoping to see a very high proportion of finishers."

The penultimate event, the Toyota Dealer 400 in Mpumalanga, drew 64 starters with only 21 crews managing to see out the distance on an event hit by cruel weather. It turned out to be the toughest race of the year with 11 finishers in the Special Vehicle category and 10 in the Production Vehicle category.

"Events this season have again drawn large entries," said Willie. "That is indicative of the healthy state of the Absa championship, hopefully we will be able to go one better and draw the biggest entry of the year."

The Ford Carnival City 400 has in the past earned something of a reputation as a rainmaker, but that has not stopped spectators from turning out in their droves. The event offers a great day of family entertainment, based at a top class facility, and the organisers are expecting another bumper event.
