ABSA 2007: Nissan South Africa working fo 7th consecutive win.

Nissan Motorsport will be aiming for an unprecedented seventh consecutive win in the individual driver and co-driver championships and a sixth win in seven years in the manufacturer competition. Reigning champions Hannes Grobler and Francois Jordaan and Duncan Vos and Ralph Pitchford will again carry the team’s hopes for overall and class SP honours in the magnificent Proudly South African Nissan Navara 4,0-litre V6 pickups in what promises to be a closely-fought competition.

In addition, Nissan Motorsport, under the inspired direction of general manager Glyn Hall, has built a third works Navara in their Midrand, Gauteng workshops for prominent Norwegian businessman Ivar Tollefsen. Tollefsen, who has competed in the Dakar Rally, is a legend in Norway for his mountain climbing exploits and Arctic expeditions. He will team up with co-driver Qui Evans from the United Kingdom.

"We enjoyed a great year in 2006, which was the first year of the SP truck, winning five of the eight events (three to Grobler/Jordaan and two to Vos/Pitchford)," said Nissan Motorsport’s award-winning general manager Glyn Hall. "While we expect even stronger opposition from traditional rivals this season, in Hannes and Duncan we have two of the best off-road drivers in the country and both Francois and Ralph are at the top of their sporting professions. Hannes and Duncan will keep each other honest and I’ll be very surprised if one of them doesn’t bring us another championship," said a confident Hall.

Nissan’s official factory team, again backed by principal sponsors Sasol and Ferodo, will once more be supported by an enthusiastic band of privateers, who will be enjoy Nissan’s support and encouragement. "Without these privateers and the Nissan dealerships that back some of the teams, we would not have been able to win five manufacturers’ championships," said Hall. "We have built a new class SP Navara for the Century Property Developments team of Mark Corbett and Juan Mohr. They impressed in their first outing in a new Navara in the Lydenburg, Mpumalanga event last year and showed that they are potential overall winners."
