 | ABSA 2012: New prologue procedure on South African Championship events.
|
Starting with this weekend’s Toyota Dealer 400 in Mpumalanga on Friday and Saturday, a new start procedure will come into play for the Donaldson Prologue on South African "ABSA Off Road Championship" events.
The Donaldson Prologue, run on the Friday before an event, determines grid positions for the race. The prologue is run over a shortened route, and with times incorporated in overall race results is essentially a race within a race. From this weekend the top 40 drivers in the Production and Special Vehicle categories will be split into four groups based on the seeding system which is formulated on the competitors previous prologue results.
Competitors will now be divided into four groups of 10. Groups A and C will be made up of the top 20 seeded crews in the Production Vehicle category, and Groups B and D will comprise the top 20 crews in the Special Vehicle category.
After this weekend the start order will be alternated at each of the remaining six races on the championship calendar. The first group away this weekend will be Group B followed by Groups C, D and A.
"The objective behind the move is to provide a safe and fair chance for every competitor on the Donaldson Prologue," said Schilling. "The seeding system and alternating the group start order will level the prologue playing field."
This weekend’s Toyota Dealer 400 is round two of the Absa Championship. Race headquarters and the designated service park will be located at the new state of the art Lydenburg Toyota dealership on the road to the Long Tom Pass.
The Donaldson prologue is scheduled to start at 12:30 on Friday and the race will start at Lydenburg Toyota at 8:30 on Saturday. Public access to race headquarters, the designated service park and spectator points on the route are free.
There are 14 spectator points along the Donaldson Prologue and race routes and spectator guides will be available at race headquarters.
