The Super Special Stage will be held on Saturday, 2nd April 2011, at 3pm. The event is open to all who wish to spectate, free of charge. The UAE-based "Toyota Team FJ" will be looking to replicate their impressive 2009 season, which began with the Super Special Stage where the team finished the event 1st in class and 5th overall.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA Vice-President, President of the Automobile & Touring Club for the UAE (ATCUAE), President of the UAE Motorcycle Club (UAEMC) and the driving force behind the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is a sporting ambassador for the Arab world. Sulayem launched the UAE Desert Challenge in 1991 which migrated into the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2010.
This year, the endurance race’s base will be situated at a greatly enhanced bivouac, adjacent to the magnificent seven-star Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, while an historic agreement between the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and Eurosport means that, for the first time, a global television audience can follow all the action over each day of the race.
The new venue will provide a unique contrast between the harshness of endurance rallying and the supreme luxury of the amazing Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara, next to which it will be located, while also focusing the eyes of the world on Al Gharbia.
On an international level, rally fans around the world will have the chance to watch the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge on TV now that television channel Eurosport has confirmed that it will broadcast the race. Available in 59 countries across three continents and 20 different languages, Eurosport has covered some of the world’s biggest sporting series with the Desert Challenge the latest major event to be added to the roster.
The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahayan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region, and is organised by the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) under the title sponsorship of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).
In a new initiative for 2011, a special organising committee has been set up to engage all partners throughout the organisational process. These include ADTA, ATCUAE, the Army, Qasr Al Sarab Desort Resort by Anantara, the Western Region Municipality, the Interior Affairs office, Abu Dhabi court, Abu Dhabi police, Civil Defence, and the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region.
