 | Africa Eco Race: Portugals Elisabete Jacinto is 2nd in spite of being feverish.
|
An inconvenient cold in conjunction with a slight fever and headaches did not help Elisabete Jacinto at the start of the 3rd edition of Africa Eco Race. Nevertheless, the MAN TGS from Team Oleoban/MAN Portugal was the second fastest among trucks, and in the joint car/truck general classification the Portuguese driver came immediately after Jean Louis Schlesser, for whom she just lost 16s in the 150 kilometres of the selective sector.
"The special was very pleasant. Part of it was the same as last year’s. The dangerous stretch on the mountain was not included, but we also had narrow, winding trails among vegetation, with branches always hitting the truck. Driving demanded a lot of concentration, since there were many ravines. This first part was arduous for me", emphasizes Elisabete Jacinto.
She proceeds to praise her navigator, José Marques, to the sky: "The second part on the other hand was very demanding for the navigator. I kept asking myself how he managed to choose the right track, among so many, and we were always changing direction, with no references on the spot. He was perfect, making no mistakes, so we always drove on the right path, at the pace I was able to keep, since I was feeling rather unwell in physical terms. Besides this, there were no other setbacks, no bad luck, no mistakes, everything went on just fine", stresses the Portuguese driver.
