|Africa Eco Race: René Metge confirms "his" road-book for 2010/2011.|
The team in charge of the validation of the 2011 Africa Eco Race road-book is back on track. A team of "specialists" formed with René Metge, Jose-Maria Servia, Fina Roman and Manfred Kroiss.
Three months before the start of this third edition, René wishes to check the details: "The philosophy of the route and the road-book is based on: Surprise, sporting challenge and navigation. The surprise: of the crossed landscapes with a breathtaking beauty and the way of approaching them. The sporting challenge: well-balanced legs and selective stages where everyone, at his own level, can express dexterity and talent. The navigation: Reflection will be the keyword to cross the main difficulties. We will facilitate starts and finishes of stages on bivouacs to decrease the liaisons and facilitate the movement of the service teams."
Without doubt, the 2011 Africa Eco Race will be very competed in trucks category. Regular entrant since the first edition, the Hungarian Miklos Kovacs (Scania) is not decided to be impressed by the competition and will make everything to sign his second consecutive win.
Facing him, the Portuguese Elisabete Jacinto will fight without concession to forget the disappointment of the previous edition where she had had to retire. Driving her MAN, her target is the first position.
But Tomas Tomecek could also solve "their" problem. On his Tatra, the very experimented Czech driver has no simple ambition to well appear, setting in sights the head of the category. Day after day, explanations on track should be strong.
But many other drivers, whom Noël Essers or Tavi Tielen, could play the "troublemakers" in this fight of Titans. Hungarian, Portuguese, Czech, Belgian or French drivers. The trucks race should reserve beautiful surprises.
In perfect harmony with the philosophy of the event, the bikes category will count in its rows two hybrid-engine machines. After a participation in the last rally of Tunisia, Willy Jobard wishes to push the experience on a more demanding event. Entered on a KTM 450 EXC, Willy will pursue the development of the "Pantone", a system of injection of under-pressure water in a petrol engine allowing significant profits in particular in terms of pollution and reduction of fuel consumption but without reducing the performances and the longevity of the engine.
"Africa Race will be a new stage in the development of this system. We made many tests last August to continue to lower the level of pollution. It makes a while that this idea was in my head and little by little, it becomes reality. I also chose Africa Race to return to a certain state of mind, the one I was able to live on rally raids some years ago. A race with human values, this is what I expect from this discipline. Being "alone" in the dunes, this is what I miss. One of my friends will follow me in this adventure. With two identical bikes, we should increase our field of exploration in tests."
