 | Africa Eco Race: Schlesser - "Navigation tricky but the landscape incredible".
|
Before the rest day in Dakhla, Team Sonangol Schlesser raced Monday on the longest leg of the rally with 376 km of stage followed by 348 km of liaison. For the fourth time, the Buggy Sonangol Schlesser sets the pace, and clinches the stage win, still ahead on the overall lead.
During the briefing in As Sakn, all the competitors listened carefully to the route details and its complexity in terms of navigation. Cyril Esquirol was deeply concentrated in his road-book and did not disappoint his driver allowing the crew to sign his fourth success in the Sonangol Africa Eco Race 2012.
Jean-Louis Schlesser offered at the finish of the stage near Boujdour a large smile to the journalists. "The René’s (Metge) briefing last night was worth well in line with predictions! The navigation was quite tricky but the landscapes incredible. Between cliffs and depressions, it was amazing. Cyril did not have a minute to breathe as the pace was intense. We sign our fourth stage victory and as usual, it's a big pleasure. Tomorrow, after a short rest day, we will enter in Mauritania and we will start a new part of the race."
Cyril Esquirol had a lot of work today. But the triple World Enduro Champion did a really good job. "Hard navigation today! The notes of the road book are very close and it is difficult to be on the right pace. I take lessons every day with the best teacher! We must stay focused from the beginning to the end of the stage."
Tomorrow, a little rest before the second part of Sonangol Africa Eco Race 2012 which will enter Mauritania. The caravan of the rally will stop tomorrow night at Boulanouar and will start on Wednesday morning for the first 425 km of Mauritanian stage towards Akjoujt.
