 | Africa Eco Race: Up and down with Schlesser’s Monster buggy on Stage 2.
|
Excellent start on Thursday’s stage for Jean Louis Schlesser and his Schlesser-Monster buggy. "We started eighth, driving superbly while my codriver made an extraordinary job on navigation" said the Frenchman.
"We passed all other cars ahead and were leading! But, since a few kilometers, I felt the steering was becoming hard, it was then a big problem to drive on such a track, fast and sinuous, rimmed by this camel grass so hard that it destroys your car if you touch it!"
"It was even a problem to change course as Celine was asking for, following the terrain and the road book. Pointing kilometer 112, I decided to stop to check how hard was the problem. And what I discovered was incredible, it happens for the very first time as we race with it since years and years, the steering column was seizing up!"
"It was impossible to fix by my own, I finished like that and driving in these conditions was really hell. We’ve lost nearly an hour on overall classification but the beautiful today’s message is that we are able to lead the race. And that will be a beautiful challenge until the race’s end."
"Thinking about it, today’s selective session was superb. What a beautiful country - this is a real kind of a philosophy!"
