Africa Race: Dutch team De Rooy will join new Rally to Dakar.

Jan de Rooy will comply with his fondness for Africa from 26th December until 11th January, 2009. "My friend Hubert Auriol who organises the new rally through Africa, won me over" tells Jan de Rooy. "I'm convinced that Auriol with his large knowledge of Africa will give us a fantastic rally. He has all the support of the African authorities and especially in Mauritania they look forward to the coming of the Africa Race".

The haulier from Son is in particular happy with the presence of Hans Bekx in his team. "It's nice to start together with Hans Bekx with this new adventure. For years we competed each other and now we are a team. Of course we will go for our own chances but we won't hesitate to help each other if necessary. Hans knows Africa better than anyone else and he's an excellent driver. I had need for a reliable and experienced driver in our team and so I found him", says the nestor of the Dutch rally riders.

Team de Rooy will start the Africa Race with 4 vehicles: two in the rally and two in the assistance category. Jan de Rooy will drive a Ginaf truck with the Iveco Cursor 13 engine. Hans Bekx will drive his familiar DAF 85."

Also the French René Metge will join the Rally. Over the years, Metge has become an emblematic figure of the Rally Raid discipline. This adventurer with an eclectic career is a lover of Africa and an expert on the subject. He’s joining the Africa Race Team to bring his experience as a technical adviser to this new international rally.
