Africa Race: Elisabete Jacinto and MAN Portugal to start in Africa.

Driving her new MAN TGS, recently tested in Morocco, Elisabete Jacinto will take part in January 2010 in the "Africa Eco Race" rally, a competition under the leadership of René Metge, instead of going to the "South-American Dakar". The Team Oleoban/MAN Portugal driver considers this African bet to be the right option because that is the preferential place for cross-country competitions with trucks.

"It is undoubtedly in Africa that we find the best physical, sports and social setting for big rallies. To take part in a great cross-country marathon in Africa corresponds to associating the spirit of adventure to that of competition, since the isolation and the hardships of the desert often drive us to the limits of our abilities", explains Elisabete, who also stressed: "Surpassing those limits is the real challenge and the major motivation to enter this rally, which is called "Africa Eco Race" and those were also the foundations for the traditional "Paris-Dakar"!

This rally has other aspects which please me in particular. One of those is the fact that navigation is included as one of the main elements to be taken into account for a good classification. The other consists in the rules for the competition, according to which cars and trucks are considered at the same competitive level. There is a general classification for both categories, and the order for starting each streak corresponds to the joint classification, which is absolutely correct. Last but not least, the fact that this rally takes place "at our doorstep" may once again motivate the Portuguese to follow this race, which is highly gratifying".

The 2010 edition of "Africa Eco Race" will set off from the South of Spain on the 27th December 2009 and will reach Lake Rose, Dakar, on the 10th January 2010.
