Aicha des Gazelles: Gazelles of the plains on Day 2 of women´s rally

Only 75 teams were at the starting line of Leg 2 at 6 o'clock Friday morning. Teams 142 Totalgaz and 148 Total E&P Nigeria spent the night out on yesterday's course. They lost their bearings in the desert and preferred to wait for daylight to return to the bivouac in Mech Irdane. They got back around 10 o'clock and have set out on Leg 2, a little tired but eager to keep going...

Team 106 "PLM Electrique inc" has just returned to the bivouac because one of the Gazelles is not feeling well.

On friday's program, a mix of wide plains and sand. Today's course is more difficult than the one yesterday. Advice given during this morning's briefing: "Let some air out of your tires before you drive in the sand. And don't forget to re-inflate them afterwards, or you risk a puncture; we have had quite a few of those already!!"

Adriana Karembeu and Marie Ménager, Team 132 Toyota left the start line along with the other Gazelles, then stopped for a photo shoot. Adriana and Marie posed with their respective sisters Natalia Dinge Sklenarikova and Marie-Hélène Ménager, 134 Questions de Femmes who are also taking part in the Rallye. The two teams then went their seperate ways, each heading for the first CP.

After blowing a tire this morning while looking for CP1, Team 168 RTL TVI started to change it when their jack gave out. Amélie Bezonhe and Claire Speeckaert had no alternative but to use their Wetter cushion or "inflateable pillow" to the uninitiated. This strange balloon helped the girls out of a difficult situation. Two hours later, they were back on course.
