 | Australasian Safari: Champion Craig Lowndes lends a hand on his Colorado.
|
PWR Holden Rally are underway designing and building a new race spec Colorado to contest the 2011 Australasian Safari. Piloted by V8 Supercar Champion and last years Safari winner Craig Lowndes and navigated by Kees Weel, who is a Safari veteran and has a number of wins under his belt, the Colorado will by the car to beat this year, or will it?
Former V8 Supercar driver Paul Weel and Navigator John Panozzo will also be driving for PWR Holden Rally in a heavily modified Colorado. Both the cars will be built to exactly the same spec and when asked whether there would be rivalry between the two Colorado’s Paul Weel said "No not at all because Lowndsy is going to come second" however Lowndes wasn’t so sure!
The Colorado’s are being prepared at PWR Performance head quarters in Ormeau just south of Brisbane, Australia. Both vehicles will have an Ls1 V8 which will deliver approximately 440 HP at 6000 RPM, Torque 415 lb-ft at 5000 RPM, a Hollinger 6 speed gear box, PWR cooling package and Alcon brakes.
The drivers will be reaching speeds of over 200kmph covering distances of up to 500km a day over very rough terrain. "Although the Colorado handles very differently to a V8 Supercar you quickly get used to your vehicle in the Safari - as you are covering such large distances in each section" said Lowndes.
The Colorado will be completed by the start of August ready to be tested ahead of the 2011 Australasian Safari that will be an eight day event commencing 23rd September 2011. Marathonrally.com will cover the event again after 2010.
