 | Australasian Safari: V8 Superchamp, Brasilian-star, Swedish Rally Princess...
|
V8 Supercar champion Craig Lowndes, number one Brazilian offroad racer Ze Helio, and Swedish "Rally Princess" Annie Seel will meet past Safari winner Ben Grabham (2007 & 2008) this Friday (17 September) before they hit the dirt for Australasian Safari 2010. The Rally is the fourth biggest Desert Rally in the World after Dakar Rally, Pharaons and UAE/AD Desert Challenge - but totally unique in landscape, fauna and people.
The 'celebrity' participants will be checking in and signing their documentation tomorrow in preparation for the gruelling seven-day offroad race, unofficially known as the 'Dakar Downunder'.
Craig Lowndes will swap the smooth surface of Philip Island, where he won the V8 Supercar Endurance Classic on Sunday, for seven days and 3600km of unforgiving WA terrain in his Holden Colorado 4WD.
Swedish Rally Princess Annie Seel, who recently won the women´s trophy at Dakar, is returning for her second Safari and hoping her experience will hold her in good stead for the Perth to Esperance endurance event.
Ze Helio is on his first visit to Australia, and although the Brazilian motorsport icon is used to the harshness of the Dakar, has no experience of the Aussie outback.
Ben Grabham has won two Australasian Safaris and was in the running for his third in 2009 until a puncture delayed his trifecta dream. He´ll be aiming for the first place position in 2010.
Marathonrally.com will cover the event from Friday on until next Sunday - and is also reporting about the 'special mind' of this interesting event. Watch out for daily news and pictures!
