 | Baja 500 Portalegre: 25 years of adventure from 27-29th October in Portugal.

In 1987, José Megre and Pedro Villas Boas initiated a cross country race called Baja Portalegre. This race would become the reference for all cross country races. Year after year this race grew and established itself as the main cross country race in Europe. It developed into such a well known race that in 1992 it had 450 participants, including motorcycles and cars.
Loved by the Portuguese and respected by the foreigners these last 25 years of Baja Portalegre always counted on the top International competitors. Gilles Lalay, Stephane Peterhansel, Richard Saint, David Castera, Cyril Depres and Thierry Magnaldi are some of the motorcycle riders. Colin Mcrae, Carlos Sainz, and Jutta Kleinschmidt are some of the drivers that raced this prestigious cross country event.
Belonging to the FIA Cup of Bajas since 2002, the cars in Baja Portalegre this year will also belong to the FIA Cross Country World Cup. With the objective of having more riders at Baja Portalegre, ACP created an additional two classes.
Classic Baja - Year of production up until 1995
For this class there will be handicaps. Depending on how old the motorcycle and the rider are it will be transformed into seconds. For Example, If you are 45 years old and your motorcycle is from 1990 (45 Seconds + 21 Seconds = 1min 06 sec) ACP will subtract 1min 06sec from your overall time. This class will only run 170 Km, and there will be a service area mid-way (70 Km).
Maxi Baja - Trail and Maxi-Trail
Exclusive for motorcycles of large scale. This class will be divided in two, class over 750cc and a class under 750cc. These motorcycles will run 300km with a service area mid-way (150 km)

Thursday Oct. 27: Scrutineering (Motorcycles and cars)
Friday Oct. 28: Super Special Stage (SSS1)
Saturday Oct. 29: Race. Cars will run two stages one of 160 km (SS2) and the other of 280 km (SS3). Motorcycles will run a continuous stage of 400km.
