|Baja Deutschland: Legendary "Baja 300" now named as "Baja Deutschland".|
More than 10 years ago began the history of the Baja’s in Germany with the "Baja Deutschland" - a FIA-sanctioned event with competitors like Jutta Kleinschmidt, X-raid BMW and the factory-team of Mitsubishi and Volkswagen. The success as pioneer of a FIA event was moderate and therefore this promising name was buried in oblivion.
In 2008, the "Baja Saxonia" based on this idea and in 2012 the "Baja 300 Mitteldeutschland" was born (in 2013 with the cooperation of SCORE-Baja 1000 winner Armin Schwarz).
This race grew over the years to the Europe’s largest Baja with more than 350 starters - including big names like Dakar-winner in the trucks, Gerard De Rooy (Iveco), Kamaz Team Germany and many more. Since the beginning the event was open for all classes: Bikes, quads, side-by-sides, cars and also trucks.
Although it was first launched as a pure amateur event, more and more professional teams participated in it, so the race turned to a top-class international motorsport event. That’s why it now deserves to be called "Baja Deutschland".
From the very beginning the 4×4 Club Leipzig and its members contributed decisively to the development of this sport and were completely responsible for the Baja 300 Mitteldeutschland in 2012 and 2013.
In order to further maintain the high level of this event, the club will enter into cooperation with "Breslau Rally", the biggest off-road rally in Europe and second-biggest rally world-wide after the Dakar. For the off-road motorsports this means, that from now on the two biggest events will be carried out by a single organiser, equipment and know-how can be better utilised as well as the quality level will be increased.
In the future the 4×4 Club Leipzig will not occur as an organiser of the event. However, the members of the club will still be involved in the implementation of Baja Deutschland and will contribute to the new project through their experience gained during the years.
This year the event will take place in the final weekend of May (28.05. - 02.06.) again near the city of Leipzig, the organizers are counting with more than 300 competitors from all over the world. More informations can be found online at [ BAJA-DEUTSCHLAND.DE ].
