Baja Portalegre: Barbosa back in lead, Zapletal crashed on 2nd stage.

Miguel Barbosa is back in the lead of the Baja ACP Repsol Portalegre 500, during the first part of the 3rd Selective Section. Russian driver Boris Gadasin had two punctures and lost several minutes leaving the Portuguese team in front of everybody.

Delay also for Pedro Gameiro, who had a puncture and lost several minutes to put all together again, and note also for Filipe Campos who didn’t left the parc between the specials. The Dessoude service was not able to solve the gearbox problems in his Nissan Proto Dessoude.

With a comfortable lead, Miguel Barbosa can now avoid any risks and the interesting fight is now for second position. Rui Sousa and João Ramos have only 13 seconds between them and both Nuno Inocencio and Boris Gadasin still wait for their chances.

Czech champion Miroslav Zapletal, who had even chance for winning the Baja Cup before the rally, had a big crash at km 52. Fortunately neither of the crew injured but the beautiful Strakar damaged seriously, so the Czechs had to retire from the race.

In the Spanish Championship, Hernandez is leading, and in the T2 Category the first overall Portalegre winner – António Baiona – leads in front of Hamad Al Thani.

Quotes:

307 – Miguel Barbosa - «It was Ok but very hard. We saw Boris stopped with a puncture, and after that it was a cool race. Tomorrow we will try to control the race. The car was not so good this afternoon, because of the little rock hit in the morning, but I think that it’s going to be OK for tomorrow.»

313 – Rui Sousa - «We try not to attack in the hard track. But we were close to João Ramos so we could not sleep… Tomorrow we will try to defend our position.»

321 – João Ramos - «Very very hard track. We are fighting with Rui so we were fast. The car is not so bad. Only near the end the turbo was showing some problems, so we have to change it in service. Tomorrow we will continue to fight.»
