|Baja Spain: Big smiles for HRX Bernhard Ten Brinke and Gert Huzink.|
The starter of this years "Baja Spain Aragon", the 6,5 km super special, tasted really well for Bernhard ten Brinke and Gert Huzink. After a steady run Bernhard finished sixth, while Gert ended in 19th position. Today the real battle starts with two special stages covering over 350 km.
For the recce of the super special the drivers of the Riwald Dakar Team grabbed their scooters, because recce by car was forbidden. “Something completely different”, said Gert Huzink afterwards with a smile.
Bernhard ten Brinke: “There were a few nasty bits in this special. I did not take any risks. It is all about tomorrow and sunday.” The Riwald-driver finished 21 seconds after winner Nani Roma in his factory Mini.
Gert Huzink was in competition for the first time with his new co-driver. “Pascal (Maimon, red.) is a real Dakar ace. He is less familiar with pacenotes in WRC style. So we have to work on that. The upgraded HRX Ford, based on a former Mitsubishi Racing Lancer, is performing really well.”
