Baja Spain: Blazquez and Esteve leaders after the first leg

| |
| As expected, Marc Blázquez and Isidre Esteve have been the winners of this first leg of the Baja. Both riders have dominated the two special stages of the journey in Soria and Zaragoza and are expected to continue the same way during the second and third leg.
Beside the water and mud at the road caused by yesterday’s storms, there haven’t been any difficulties or surprises for the riders. They haven’t have to face the dust, which used to be typical at the Baja, but therefore they found worst roads than expected, mainly at the first stretch. On the second one, much more curvy and demanding, the road wasn’t that wet.
Esteve is 1.13sec ahead of Pellicer and 3sec of Viladoms. Blazquez is 8.35sec ahead Carlos Sousa. There have also been some riders who have dropped out, like the third classified yesterday Marc Guasch, due to mechanical problems on his Husqvarna. Joao Ramos has dropped out too due to an accident, and Marc Coma hasn’t even arrived to the start of the first special stage due to a mechanical problem with his Mitsubishi. Fortunately he’s going to continue the race tomorrow.
Regarding to trucks, David Oliveras is still leader at the moment, before finishing the second special stage of the day.
