Baja Spain: Maximum safety measures for fans and participants.

| |
|
 | | | The organisers of the Baja España Madrid Aragón 2006, aware of the need to offer the maximum security to the participants, will use two roadside assistance systems with proven efficiency during last year’s edition. The goal is to minimise all risks during the overtaking and to speed up the medical intervention and rescue when required.
The participating cars and trucks will use a GPS which shows the exact situation of each vehicle on the road through a screen. In addition, this system, managed by SIT Comunicaciones, also works as a surveillance system to make sure that participants of the race are not skipping parts of the itinerary. Another function is to control if the teams are obtaining emergency help outside the service areas – when the car stops in the middle of the stage, an alarm goes off. The system is also useful for a verbal communication between the team and the race director, so they can both speak in case of an incident and to interchange first-hand information.
Additionally, all the cars, trucks and the first ten bikes will carry the Sentinel system, used in the Dakar rally and in the 2005 edition of the Baja. This mechanism makes overtaking much easier, because when the slowest car gets honked at by a faster vehicle, a light is turned on and a 110 db-buzz goes off in the vehicle to be surpassed, thus indicating that he should give way. Sentinel also has an alarm device warning about possible elements blocking the road within a 500-metre range: a possible accident or a vehicle that has gone off the track and is about to get back on the road. This is useful to avoid the crash between a vehicle off the track and the one driving on the road.
