 | Baja Spain: McRae Buggy 4×2 wins T3 Class in Spain - Electric-buggy tests.
|
This weekend, the Dutchmen Chris Leyds with his Mcrae Buggy managed to win the T3 class in the 2011 Baja Spain. He managed to a 30 minute gap towards his rival in the class the Dainesi Dust devil. The overall standings resulted in the 19th position with a 7 minute penalty.
Chris Leyds was very happy with the result. "The car has been reliable during the hole event, nothing went wrong apart from getting in late in the time gates due to distraction which resulted in a time penalty and beeing delayed behind a crashed car that blocked the track. On stage SS4 we managed a 13 place result which is great for a car this size and budget."
This week the team had the chance to do some real testing in race conditions with the "McRae Electric Buggy". The buggy was the opening car for the Prologue-Superspecial at the 2011 Baja Spain. The electric buggy expected and concluded the 6 km special in 6:40 minutes wich would have placed the car in 13th position had it been in the competition.
At the moment the car is in prototype form. It is running with 1 out of the 3 battery tanks. Right now it has an outonomy of 100 kms. Over the next weeks the other two battery tanks will be introduced in to the car and it will be further tested. The car caused surprise as it was so silent, many people did not relalise it was coming untill it was righ in front of them.
