 | Baja Spain: Peterhansel gets his second Baja before Novitskiy and Holowczyc.
|
Seven hours, 12 minutes and 21 seconds is the time French Peterhansel needed to obtain again, as in 2007, his second Baja. Even though Holowczyc was the first leader of the race after his victory in Friday´s Super Special Stage in MotorLand Aragon, X-Raid driver knew how to squeeze his car´s potential and how to get the best from the "excellent stages" of the Baja.
The Polish was one of the main stars of the heartbreaking ending we lived behind Peterhansel in the last minutes of the race for a place of the two left in the podium. In the arrival of SS4, last stage of the day and of the event, Boris Gadasin was second before his team mate, Leonid Novitskiy, and with only 48 seconds of difference. However, in the connexion between the arrival and the assistance, Gadasin got his car broken that left him without his place in podium.
So, in his place, Holowczyc got the third position, something he defined as "a gift from Gadasin". The Polish, who started as leader on Saturday, lost some time during the weekend and he has assumed that, even though the good result, he needs a "faster car to face such rivals as Peterhansel and Novitskiy".
In the Press Conference after the race, winners agreed that "stages were very technical" and they were "fantastically organized in security". Special merit from Luis Climent, first Spanish clasiffied. Widely experienced in Baja, Valencian made one of his best performances and he got the fifth place in the general classification.
Nani Roma, inmediately after him, made a great time and was sixth even though yesterday´s penalty. By his side, Jesús Calleja, Spanish adventurer known for his show "Extreme Challenge", ended his firts Baja with a 18ª place, not bad taking into account he took the start 50th and that it was his first participation after his already far beginnings in bikes.
Calleja, driving a Toyota Hilux with his friend Fernando López as codriver, he put as objective to arrive to the end of the race, so he can consider the challenge as succesfully passed.
In bikes, after Marc Coma and Jordi Viladoms´ absences and Farres´ bad luck with his feet broken yesterday, Joan Barreda seemed to have the way free to the victory. However, the electrical break down of his Suzuki 450 left him without a great triomph. After this facts, the very experimented in Baja Spain Marc Guasch got his first victory in a race he has been racinf for more than ten years.
After him, Joan Pedrero, third last year, set also his own personal record with this second position in the Aragonese event. Julian Villarrubia, who was about to be out of the competition for monetary reasons, got finally the sponsorship needed to get a place in the podium.
Spectacular performance from Óscar Romero who, third classified in bikes scratch, was the first quad in crossing the final line; so he repeats last year victory, followed by Aragonese Mario Gajón and by Francisco Palacín.
In buggies, Iñaki Texeira certified his victory today before Miguel Vila, second. From 107 participants in Entry List on Friday (62 cars y 45 bikes), 29 cars and 27 bikes arrived to assistance, so finished the race.
Prize giving ceremony was Sunday at 19:00 horas in Paseo Independencia with a total success regarding fans attendance and that had winners and his vehicles sharing their victories with Aragonese public.
