Baja Spain-Aragon finished with few surprises in sports facts and some in the institutional area. More then 129 vehicles and best drivers in the world make this 29th edition prove that Baja Spain couldn´t be in better shape.
The announcement made on Friday about Zaragoza´s Town Hall non supporting the race anymore; was completed today by the consummation of Stéphane Peterhansel (X-raid Mini All4 Racing), Joan Barreda (Husqvarna) and Jo Adua´s (Iveco) victories in cars, bikes and trucks respectively.
Peterhansel clinched victory for the third time in his career undoubtely and keeping leadership from the beginning to the end; with a total time of 06:07.20 and an advantage of 5 minutes over the second place, Khalifa Al Mutaiwei. The UAE driver gets leadership in Cross Country World Cup thanks to this result.
Third was the Russian Vasilyev (G-Force Proto), while his Teammate Boris Gadasin (G-Force) was fourth in front of the Romanian Costel Casuneanu with the best Mitsubishi.
About Zaragoza´s descision competitors said: "Zaragoza is wrong. Town Hall took a wrong directoon and it´s a pity. I really hope they will change their minds, because this is a decision I can´t understand", said 10 times Dakar winner Stéphane Peterhansel.
After his victory, Barreda confessed he hopes "To repeat this success in following years, because this race is undoubtely a worldwide reference that shouldn´t disappear"; while Peterhansel referred directly ro Zaragoza´s Mayor showing his expectations about his rectification.
Isidre Esteve, back in the Baja after three years away because of the health problems he suffered from his disability described the decision as a "harmful knock both for the organization and drivers"; while Óscar Romero, three times winner in quads, highlighted that "Baja has always been together with Zaragoza and Aragon and everybody in the world knows the event and the area because of that reason, so Zaragoza should have been thanking they have such an event here".
