Baja Spain: Rally-Ace Pau Soler with "Side-by-Side" Rally-Report.

The Baja Spain Aragon is still over - but there is still one story left. One story about the Spanish Rally-Ace Pau Soler, in 2008 second at the Transsyberia Rally together with Laia Peinado in a Porsche Cayenne Transsyberia S - and again still open for new projects. In Spain Soler started with a RBS Obey Side-by-Side - not a usual Rallycar...

Herewith the Story of Pau Soler - and the answers to the Question "how to start with a Side-by-Side at one of the hottest and toughest Bajas?"

Pau Soler Teamreport: When Pep Vila (Dakar truck driver) called and offered me his seat on the RBS Obey to race at Baja Spain, I didn't hesitate to say YES! After four times on a motobike and some broken bones at Monegros Desert, this was a good chance to start my Spanish 4-wheels career on a car - well on a kind of car. After the first tests I realized that the car was much more funny and exciting than I expected, so we were going to have some fun racing on it.

On the prologue on Friday we took it easy, our goal was to finish the race and show everybody that the RBS Obey is a hard car. But we made a good time, only 1 second slowlier than the first truck, so we thought that may be we could keep in front of them the day after...

But nothing so far, after 25 kms of SS1 we had a puncture, and while we were changing the wheel, all trucks were overtaking us, so we had a nice driving behind them, and behind all cars, lots and lots of dust but also lots of fun!

On SS2, we started after the trucks, the ground was harder, some wind tooked away the dust of our way and we made a good speed, we even catched one truck and passed it (with the cooperation of Sentinel, and the truck driver, of course). So our day was OK, we were faster than many cars and happy that the car didn't show any problem.

On sunday we repeated the process, driving carefully and thinking all the time on getting trough the finish line, so we didn't speed up too much and we finished. After all, winners of T5 class (light buggies, Spanish Championship), 37th place on the overal standing (from almost 70 vehicles that were on the start) is not a bad result.

I hope that we can make some other races on this car, Baja was not the perfect scenario and if we can find a slowlier race, more tricky and technical, for sure we can give many surprises to many T2. Fin
