Baja Spain: Spanish Baja officially presented in Madrid.

| |
|
 | | | The Baja España Madrid - Aragón 2006, a classic race of Raids in Europe has been officially presented today in the headquarters of the Madrid Autonomous Community with the same high spirits as 23 years ago, when it was first held. Today’s goals are different and renewed, making it a different race whose main target is to become part of the 2007 World Raid Championship.
The competition is organized, once again, by the sports-marketing company Octagon Esedos, the Real Automóvil Club de España (RACE), and the firm Promotor. It is to be run on the roads of Aragón, and Zaragoza will repeat as its center of operations. However, the Baja widens its horizon, and the Madrid Autonomous Community will become the starting point and will host an introductory leg, adding a new dimension to the event.
The Baja will cross three states: Madrid, Castilla-León and Aragón, and will visit the city of Soria. During four days, the race will reach out to more fans with longer and more spectacular stages, and will gather the best riders of the sport on motorcycles, cars, quads and trucks.
The race has expanded throughout its history, and has improved in all aspects - organization with more expertise, better infrastructures and safety measures, and a larger audience. This is why the FIA has been requested to include this event in the World Championship calendar of All Terrain Rallyes. This would ultimately transform it into one of the major contests of the season.
This growth in interest has already been mirrored in this year’s television broadcasts, with daily highlights on national channel Televisión Española, Aragón’s state channel, TVE’s International Channel, and the sports channel ESPN.
