Baja Spain Aragon 2009 Special-Newssection (FIA Cross Country Bajas)

Baja Spain: Stéphane Peterhansel swept to victory again.






The joy inside X-Raid Team was triple on Saturday. Three of their four pilots have got into the podium and, even though French Chicherit has hade some technical complications, he and his Co-Driver Tina Thoerner finally arrived to the end and will take the start on Sunday.

Dakarian Stéphane Peterhansel remains unbeatable in the Baja. He has been the leader in both of the stages on Saturday and he finished in that position with a final time of 3:43:16, the Spaniard Nani Roma has been second and the Portuguese Filipe Campos third.

Barcelona´s pilot seems to be willing to get a prioriotary place in this race and he is doing all his best to finally obtain it. Besides, Filipe Campos consolidates in the third place of general classification, place that he already got on 2008.

The French Nicolas Misslin (Mitsubishi Lancer MRX) was fourth and Tonnie Van Deijne (Holland, Mitsubishi L200/Strakar) finished fifth. First Spaniard after Nani Roma was Óscar Hernandez, from Andinas Racing Team, who was seventh.

Among the incidences, apart from the one of Guerlain Chicherit, standed out the one of Russian Boris Gadasin due to the crash of his engine, fact that leaves him out of the Baja for this year.

Also, French Pierre Lartigue, back to the Baja after some years missing, had to abandon. So did Climent, Garrido, Grasa, Turon-Barrère, José Francisco González, Manfrinato and Larini, who had some problems on Friday on superspecial and didn´t took the start Saturday morning. On the second stage, Holowczyc, López, Gameiro, Calubini and Caporale retired.

On bikes, Joan Barreda, best one yesterday at the end of the superspecial, had to retired this morning. With this absence, the road was more open to the others. Then, there were Farrés and Viladoms, KTM Repsol official pilots who leaded the fight for te first position, which finally went to Farrés.After him, Viladoms and Pedrero. Abandons:Manenti, Andreu, Hernández and Nicola Dutto in first sector and Peña, Martínez, Segarra, García and Pisano on second one.

On trucks, Macik was again the one on top, followed by Marco Dono, current champion, and by Francesc Selga. Oliveras, usually on top positions, had some issues and finished seventh.

From 154 pilots on the "starting grid", 121 got to finish the race. Tomorrow, cars will start again by SS1 (Belchite-Fuendetodos) and bikes on SS2 (La Muela). Podium: 20:00 H Paseo Independencia of Zaragoza.
