 | Baja Spain: Striking MAN début by Portugal´s Elisabete Jacinto in Bajas.
|
With her experience and excellent results in the long African marathonrallys, Elisabete Jacinto, driving a MAN TGS enrolled by Team Oleoban/MAN Portugal, made her extremely successful début in a baja type competition, reaching 2nd place among the 15 trucks which took part in Baja España Aragón, which enters the modality World Cup.
Teamed with José Marques and Marco Cochinho, the Portuguese driver set from the prologue a rather strong and very consistent pace which allowed her to excel among the big competition, including the winner of the two previous editions of the Spanish event, and she was only overcome by the Frenchman Josef Adua, who entered with a prototype from the team which won this year’s Dakar.
"It was a very interesting challenge to run with a truck on a course which is completely different from those we are used to find in Africa and which clearly isn’t the most convenient for trucks" Jacinto said after the race.
"However I did enjoy the competition, which was very demanding, both from the physical and the mechanical points of view, but my team, myself and our MAN TGS stood firm through the hardships of the course, especially at the last day of the event, when the track was already highly eroded."
"I’m very happy to have attained all the goals we had set for ourselves. In the sports field, we were only superseded by a truck which is not in the same ‘war’ as we are, and even then, we put up a good fight. From a mechanical point of view, all the changes made in the truck were tested with success. We have evolved a lot, which pleases me, though I cannot but mention that I’d like to have even more mechanical assets to be able to fight for victory, because in terms of driving I feel capable of doing still much more", stressed the Team Oleoban MAN Portugal driver at the end of the competition.
