 | Baja Spain: Team Sonangol Schlesser still leads overall FIA World Cup.
|
Last weekend, the Sonangol Schlesser Buggy participated at the Aragon Baja in the Zaragoza region, in the North East of Spain. On this event, counting for the FIA Cross Country World Cup, Jean-Louis Schlesser and his co-pilot, Konstantin Zhiltsov were brilliant in the two wheels drive vehicle category, consolidating their leadership in the provisional classification.
Not even two weeks ago, Jean Louis Schlesser was repatriated from the Silk Way Rally with a serious hand injury after a roll over with his Schlesser Buggy.
After a surgical operation in Monaco and a few resting days, the boss of the "Sonangol Schlesser Team" took the road for Spain to participate at the "Baja Spain Aragon" to defend his leader's place in the World Cup. A difficult mission considering the very technical route, with an oppressive heat and the competitors’ level taking part to the event.
At final after two stages of 202.35 km and another of 98.06 km, the Buggy finished 7th of the general classification and 1st of the two wheels drive category. An excellent result which the pilot commented from Girona where the Team was blocked due to the dramatic fires at the Spanish border.
"I am very satisfied with this result because this Spanish Baja was really hard. The route wasn’t for Buggies, sinuous route without any rolling pist. Also, the Fesh Fesh was omnipresent and driving in this dust is a real hell, for equipment and bodies" Schlesser said after the Rally.
"Nevertheless, the Schlesser Buggy perfectly worked without any problem. The Cooper tires did a great jobt: zero punctures! We made a perfect race which gives us no stress, because of our advance, in the provisional FIA World Cup classification, pilot and manufacturer Cup."
