Baja Tierras del Cid: Race diary of Jaime Batista – Part 1.

It is always interesting to learn about how do those guys in the cockpit see the rallies from the inside. This weekend we have the honour to publish the diary of Jaime Baptista, co-driver of reigning Portuguese Champion Filipe Campos (X-Raid BMW X3 CC) from the Baja Tierras de Cid in Burgos, Spain.

“This third Iberian Cross-Country Rally Trophy competition is a really interesting challenge. At the sportive level, our main goal is trying to place Bernardo Moniz da Maia in a good position so that he can strengthen his leadership in the Iberian Cross-Country Rally Trophy. At the structure level Baja Tierras d’el Cid has unique characteristics. Starting with the Super Special, in which the solution adopted, is interesting by presenting a secret route that we need to do twice, counting the best time we get out of the two. On the other hand, it’s been quite a while since we participated in a cross-country rally event with “in-line route”, having the assistance and refuel counting to the total time of race.

Therefore it will be 450 km “at full throttle”, although to me and to my driver Filipe Campos we will be taking additional precautions due to having next week one more race of the Portuguese National Championship, in which we and the car really need to be at 100% (since we are currently in the second position and fighting for the renewal of the national title). We also know that the route markings in Baja Tierras d’el Cid may be diverse from the ones we are used to in Portugal so we will be taking additional precautions because of that too. Even so, I’m very thrilled to be back in Spain for one more cross-country rally competition, in which I expect, above all, that the Yser Racing Team reach a good result.”
