Breslau: 20th edition of the Breslau Rally ended succesfully in Poland

The teams have arrived in the camp after a nice day in the Polish forests. Today (Saturday) the competitors did 70 km, four parts with very different terrain around Zagan: sand, water, mud, and dof course some of the famous watercrossings near Zagan. Never before we had so much tension on the last day, as the final ranking has been decided today.

Martin Hähle (Toyota Proto) managed to roll his car near the watercrossing in Zagan and with the help of Alfred Wemhoff (Mercedes Unimog) he managed to put the car back on his wheels. As he lost a lot of time here the French team of Cedric Porcher with the red Mud Racer obviously might have a chance for the first place - but they also lost a lot of time - so we will only know tonight at the price giving ceremony.

Daniel Guenther was the first Unimog today and he enjoyed it: "To start on the first position was an honor for us, but also a little more difficult as we had to open the stage for our category!" The ranking in the light truck class is special with many competitors racing closely together. Racedirector Alex Kovatchev will be looking closely at all the results as the difference is sometimes only minutes on a full week of racing.

The bike class looks very Dutch until now with Henk Knuiman in the lead and Rico van der Sanden en David Wijnhoven on his tail. Oliver Post and the other bikers try to offer competition but have difficulty keeping up. Today Oliver was very fast through the first stages, but will it be enough?

Harald Chemnitz, leader in the heavy trucks, is hesitant when we meet him: "I might have won" he says with a smile. With their fast IFA W50 prototype the famous team is one of the fastest trucks in the scene, able to keep up with the fast Dakar trucks during the recent "Baja 300 Mitteldeutschland" and a very fast competitor in the truck class above 7.5 ton.

In the light trucks the eventually winner could be the German "Off Road Star" Udo Heidenreich, who climbed day by day position by position and was heavily fighting with the Mercedes Unimogs of the teams Guenther, De Lille and Toepfer...

Alex Kovatchev looks back at a dynamic edition of the Breslau Rally with strong competition amoung the teams, a lot of fair play and friendship. "As organizer we had to change the schedule and we stayed an extra day in Drawsko Pomorski, which has always been a good host to the Rally. During events like this I border between my role as racedirector and as competitor, and from both perspectives I really appreciate the quality of the teams and the endurance they have shown during the last week."

"Tonight we will have the pricegiving ceremony which will be spectacular, and after that we will continue our work on the next Breslau event, the "Balkan Breslau" in september this year, which will start in Sofia and finish south of Varna in Bulgaria. But first we will enjoy the 20th anniversary of the Rally Breslau Poland tonight with a big ceremony!”
