 | Breslau Rally: Muddy and bumpy circuit track around Recz, fast to Boryszin.
|
After the first days in which mostly stages in the respective camp area were laid out now longer tracks are driven. On Thursday the so called "Hannibal-Stage" will be the longest stage of the rally.
On Tuesday the organization had laid out a 250 km course in the military training area between Drawsko and Recz. It consisted of less muddy however more bumpy parts and a lot of extreme offroad driving. Similar to Monday the stage was significantly faster compared to previous years.
Very positive feedback got the idea to separate the bike course over several kilometers from the car and truck course. "That was really great" stated several bikers "we didn't have to focus on the cars at all times and could cruise through the forest on our own."
On Wednesday according to organizer Henrik Strasser a half rest day followed. The start took place on around early noon in the Recz camp. Then a short and fast 70 km stage followed which was directed to the south with a small showcamp in a city next to Gorzow.
To get the participants quickly but definitely not bored into the new camp a lot of the transport stages were off-road passages. This was extremely well received by the drivers. "I really liked it, no streets however nice sightseeing in the great Polish landscape which you normally hardly even notice as a driver because of the high speed." tells us biker Christina Meier. A fellow driver adds "A great thing. Even though the stage was short this was the most beautiful one for me so far.
The current camp is also new and has been established directly next to a now touristic military bunker complex of the former "Ostwall". All around small green bunker turrets are sprouting from the earth like small little concrete mushrooms. The local fire department came with a brand new Mercedes Atego to wash the participants cars - free of charge. The catering tent lies on a small hill with a nice view on the foggy plains - that's Poland from a completely different perspective.
The participants have many stories to tell - however time is running out. Already at 6:30h the next start will take place. Here as an example the daily challenges of Kristof Ostaszewski who is a former Breslau winner in the truck class. This year he competes with his son. While the father drives a Mercedes Zetros the son pilots the Ostaszewski's former car, an Ural Volvo.
While the son still has issues driving the golden Ural he consistently manages to arrive at the finish line. The father faces bigger challenges. His tough driving has bent the Mercedes' heavy metal in many places. His service crew had to repair big parts of the driver cabin with old metal sheets. Then after a serious mud hole on Tuesday the engine broke. So on Wednesday his crew was trying to find a new engine for the heavy truck.
On Wednesday the vehicles of the "mud-free" Cross Country Class joined the rally. From Thursday on they will join the race on tracks that have less mud and enable a higher speed. In the race as the winner of the "18. Breslau" in Romania is Cross Country team Grünbeck/Dasinger in their Mercedes G. In total 6 new cars joined for the Cross Country Class. Additionally some participants used the opportunity to switch to the CC class.
Thursday will definitely be the toughest day of the rally with the so called "Hannibal-Stage" which starts in Boryszin and will lead close to the German border. The distance will be driven in several small stages with multiple restarts and a showstart in Zagan.
Shortly behind Zagan follows the legendary mud hole next to a main street which usually turns into a huge public gathering place where the local villagers greet every car with cheering and applause.
