 | Breslau Rally: New camp near the city of Recz - and a special adventure.
|
On Monday the third stage of the Breslau Rally 2012 started with a transfer stage from Borne Sulinowo to Drawsko Pomorskie where the special stage took place in a huge military training area between Drawsko and Recz. While the participants were early in the stage battling for the best time the service crews faced their own adventure.
First surprise: The known camp in a military facility near Recz is no longer in use. Instead a farmer had provided a large grass area next to the road between Recz and Drawso to be used as the camp. The field turned out to be a small hill and the rain during the last days had made it a slippery one - especially the entry passage.
Quickly a queue built for more than a kilometer and everyone was quite curious what was going on. Our press crew overtook the convoy and soon the culprit was identified: A huge Mercedes Actros service truck was stuck on the slippery field exactly where everyone had to enter into the camp.
We quickly revised our plans to go into the track right then and tried to tow the big trucks into the camp with our Steyr press truck. From now on marathonrally.com reporter Berthold Grings had a new task: to tow all stuck big trucks into the camp.
After that "entry-strategy" was implemented and later the organizer’s official towing trucks arrived we finally could go into the stage. "No one had been expecting this" smiled organizer Henrik Strasser. "But we are on an adventure race here - and so also the service crews had their personal adventure."
