British ORC: First run in Driffield from April 8-9.

The British Offroad Championship series starts next weekend in Driffield/UK. A return to the military testing ground which provided such a spectacular finale in 2002. Hard tracks and water splashes and some wicked yumps make this one a good choice for spectators.

The terrain is typically military, only the MOD can take a disused airfield and sculpt it into a testing and entertain off road site. Steep hills and "knife-edges" abound as well as the hard perimeter tracks and some deep water. Even a handful of sealed surfaces are included in the course to provide a bit of variety. There is not much beats a blast up a runway, before heavy braking into a ninety left onto slimy chalk!Mick Gillett takes off Photo: Heike Lowenstein (

It is possible to get more than a five mile lap from the site, depending on the configuration used on the day, but there is much more to come from this versatile site!

The site is well situated close to the town of Driffield, providing lots of options for accommodation or an evening meal. As an airfield the service area is hard standing, providing a bit of a respite from the elements and much of the course is visible from the HQ area.

The airfield is off the A614 Market Weighton Road, one mile from Driffield. Travelling from Market Weighton on the A614 towards Driffield the site entrance is approx ½ mile after the village of Eastburn on the left hand side of the road. The Entrance will be marked with orange arrows. There are plenty of B&Bs and inns in the local vicinity and more details will be added nearer the time. The nearby town of Driffield will cater for most requirements.
