Central Europe Rally: Depping - Today’s stage is really difficult.

Volkswagen driver Giniel de Villiers and his German co-driver Dirk von Zitzewitz won the first lap of today’s stage with only 35 seconds in front of Stéphane Peterhansel (Mitsubishi) and Nani Roma (Mitsubishi). On fourth position the US-American Robby Gordon reached the finish line in his Hummer H3. Yesterday´s winner Dieter Depping (Volkswagen) finished 6th behind Luc Alphand.

"Today’s stage is simply difficult. A part of it is muddy, the rest is extremely wet. It’s difficult to find a good rhythm" says yesterday’s stage winner Dieter Depping. "It has a feeling of the Dresden-Breslau Rally. In a 4-5 km part the passage is sandy and destroyed and also extremely muddy. The rest is wet gravel. But today we drove well, Giniel adapted himself to the conditions very well" adds Dirk von Zitzewitz.

How tough the track was, show the BF Goodrich tires of Volkswagen and other teams: After 70 kilometres they are completely damaged, also the BF Goodrich Tires of the Team Zapletal.

At X-Raid BMW today Nasser Al-Attiyah was the fastest in the 8th position, followed by Bruno Saby in 14th place. "Today is not our day" says Saby, "We had problems with our heater, so our front window was wet all the time. We had to clear them again and again, this was not funny. At least we broke one tire and lost some minutes more." The heater was not only the problem of Saby, also Al Attiyah had to slow down to clear the windows. "This is disappointing, we are here to win, not to test."

Best private team was the Czech Miroslav Zapletal with his Mitsubishi L200.
