Central Europe Rally: International premiere for McRae Enduro.

Built by Alister McRea the new "McRae Enduro" will race for the first time in an event of this degree. The first start of "ready-to-race" car was postponed several times until two ago when the car drove on a local Hungarian Rally. "We had to thoroughly test the car" says Chris Leyds from the Netherland who is the first customer who will pilot the car.

"In total that car has driven more than 20.000 km now and we replaced the usual simple parts that need to be exchanged at this point." Otherwise we will leave everything as it is and take the car into the rally in the present state.

Together with co-pilot Beffie Dees Layds will be driving one of the most frequently photographed cars on the Rally. The first real race entry had been postponed numerous times. An announced "Pirelli McRae Enduro Trofeo" did not take place as hardly any participant was willing to driver the series of four races in the second year of the McRae Enduro. However - the concept remains ingenuous, the car, service and all four Bajas being covered by one price.

"At the moment everyone needs to get to know the car more and we have to see what is possible with it" state potential customers. Especially Bowler- and Deser-Warrior drivers will be interesting prospects for Alister McRae who outlines "One of the big advantages of the car is that it is not only light but also cheap in the initial investment. Most of the spareparts are readily available, the engine is made by Ford and is otherwise used in Jaguars or Land Rovers".

The Desert-Warrior-Producer "RallyRaid UK" is well aware of the competition. They could be equipped with BMW engines and then could be seen as an improved, faster and cheaper alternative to the Bowler Wildcat. As a result a new stripped down version for amateur drivers has been created who will make it possibly to run professional races on a tighter budget. "The car has all advantages, is cheaper and easier to maintain" says Martin Coulson of the RallyRaid UK-Team.

Both teams will be competing on the "Central Europe Rally" also for marathonrally.com - and we will be watching both teams intensely and reporting about them over the next days.
