Central Europe Rally: Only 300 Euros Entry Fee for Dakar-Competitors.

Historical moment: A brand new cross country rally series, the so called Dakar Series was launched today at The Danube Palace in Budapest. Central European Rally (CER), first event of the new series organised by French ASO was presented to the media by Etienne Lavigne, race director of the Dakar, dr. István Ujhelyi, under-secretary of the Hungarian Ministry for Regional Development and race director-to-be Péter Faluvégi.

The CER, scheduled for 19-26 April 2008, is to start with a show start from Budapest, capital of Hungary on 20th April. Then the drivers have to complete four legs in Hungary and another three in Transsylvania (Roumania) to reach the finish which is not at the Lac Rose but - to remain stylish - on the shore of another beautiful lake, the Balaton, more precisely in Balatonfüred on 26th April.

Both Lavigne and Ujhelyi ephasized the enormous positive effect of the rally on the tourism of Hungary. "We have been planning Dakar Series for two years now, so it was not a sudden idea" - said Lavigne. "But after we had to cancel this year’s Dakar, we decided to run the first event in 2008. Now this rally is an investment for us, we set the entry fees in order to attract the most possible competitors."

The entry fees will be 3000 Euros for bikes, 5000 Euros for cars and 7000 Euros for trucks, but those who were to participate in Dakar 2008 only have to pay 300 Euros. Entries will open on 11th February, entry forms can be downloaded from [ ].
