Central Europe Rally: Robby Gordon won first leg of stage 5

Currently, the first cars have arrived from the first leg of today's stage. The rainy weather from the last days has changed into beautiful sunshine. With the first results of today the race field has been mixed again. First to arrive in this stage was Robby Gordon with his hummer H3 who came in 12 seconds earlier than Carlos Sainz. Peterhansel suffered problems in the stage and had to change a tire shortly before the finish line and arrived four minutes after Robby Gordon.

Directly after his stage victory we spoke with Robby Gordon who said the route today was perfect for his buggy and especially his tires so he managed to finish smoothly. In the overall standings Sainz is the new leader at the moment with just some seconds ahead of Peterhansel. The best Mitsubishi so far today was driven by Roma who usually arrived as one of the later Mitsubishis until now. Chicherit arrived on the forth position, however has hardly any chance for a total victory any more as he lost a lot of time in Romania. De Villiers and von Zitzewitz managed to turn their car over and totally destroyed it. As a result they are forced to retire from the race.

Similarly Al Attiyah in his BMW had to stop competing with a broken engine, which is a serious blow to X-Raid, because now they will not be any chance for them to win the race anymore. In the total standings Volkswagen is currently in the lead, but one car short of Mitsubishi in the top 6. The top field of the race is separated by just some seconds from each other. The first six cars are all within a three minutes range after the leader, followed by big difference and then the seventh car being 18 minutes after the first car. So at the moment victory is still possible for everyone in the top pack.
