Dakar 2007: German/Slovenian Lohr-Unimog approaches Dakar.

When having finished the twelfth stage of the 2007 Dakar, the Ellen Lohr Unimog crew held 43rd position in the truck standings. Furthermore, Darko Goriup and co-driver Janez Krivic from Slovenia had to again complete the final part of the stage in the dark. "Everytime, it feels just great to arrive at the bivouac in the night being broken and to then drive to our perfectly prepared service site" says Goriup. "While Janez and I recover and recharge our batteries for the coming stage, the Unimog is spruced up by the Actros crew for the following day´s challenge."

Today´s 458-kilometre stage takes the field from Mali to Senegal, with the 260-kilometre special stage featuring rocky routes and fast laterite tracks. On Saturday, the Unimog will have to cope with another 576-kilometre stage (including a 225-kilometre special stage) from Tambacounda, Senegal, to Dakar. "To have made it that far and being that close to the finish can make you a kind of nervous" admits co-driver Janez Krivic. "We truly look forward to completing the rally´s final stage at the Lac Rose, on Sunday. And to crossing the finish ramp waiting at the end of this stage."
