Dakar 2007: Hungarian Politican met the Dakar Teams.

István Újhelyi, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Autonomy and Area Development was welcoming the Hungarian Dakarists - those who have successfully finished the 7915 km distance of the 29th Dakar Rally - at a Restaurant in Budapest. He had been making negotiations on the Budapest start of the desert show in Lisbon, before the start of the competition.

In the meanwhile the politician himself had become a Dakar fan, therefore he was listening to the referrals with huge interest. At the reception the KTM biker Péter Kátai (finished as 20th) - member of the Szalay Dakar Team - was present, together with the Balázs Szalay/László Bunkoczi duo (Opel Antara; 35th position), and the trucker trio of Zsolt Darázsi, Norbert Szalai and Aladár Laklóth (MAN). Besides the members of the team László Palik and Zsolt Darázsi (Nissan Pickup, 27th position) also clinked their glasses, together with the crew of the Balázs Szobi/Attila Éder/Ákos Jobbágy Flex-MAN trio (19th), and the Zoltán Szaller/Pavel Fasko/László Pócsik trio (27th).

Dr. István Újhelyi said; negotiations were very encouraging, background studies are being made at present, too, which will be about the fact that a Budapest start of the desert show would be useful in several ways and mean a great income for Hungary. Balázs Szalay - Central European Representative of ASO (the main organizer) - said that they have received the invitation of the Under-secretary, who promised a visit to Hungary in February, in order to continue negotiations started in Lisbon a few weeks ago, or to put an end to them.
