Dakar 2007: Marc Leeuw - Dutchmen in the only competing Renault Kerax

| |
|
 | | | Truck n° 568, the only Kerax in the race, is driven by Marc Leeuw. This 35 year-old Dutchman, married with three children, is living his dream: participating in the Dakar Rally. It’s done and dusted: Marc Leeuw is really in the mythical race. On board his truck, two team-mates, co-pilot Harmen Scholtabers and Dirk Garvelink, mechanic and rally champion in Holland and a real connoisseur of car and truck racing.
"In Holland, I run an HGV driving school. That is why I wanted to do the Dakar in a truck and not in a car. For this first outing, our ambition is to arrive in Dakar. If we are well placed, that would of course be a bonus, but we are not looking to finish amongst the top drivers", declared Marc Leeuw. As a real connoisseur of the rallies of Egypt, Dubai and of numerous races in Holland, Marc hasn’t necessarily gone for the easy option. As he sets out behind the wheel of his Renault Kerax, he faces a real challenge.
"What really motivated us in the choice of vehicle was the presence of two Renault Trucks assistance vehicles. We know that we can count on the Renault team, who have really proved their worth over many years. It is a fact that Renault Trucks is the only truck manufacturer to offer such a level of service on the Dakar Rally. For us, it is an undoubted benefit and was very much an influence on our choice", added Marc.
