Dakar 2009: Czech Offroadsport-Mitsubishi on the way to Argentina.

A technical scrutineering of all European competitors of rally Dakar 2009 took place in French port Le Havre. Offroadsport team is the only Czech representative in the most prestigious category T1. Car Mitsubishi L200 Strakar with starting number 340 and with crew Zapletal-Ourednicek will have a support in truck MAN TGA with starting number 596 assisting like fast help in the race. Furthermore the team will be accompanied by special truck VOLVO 6x6 (starting number 885) fully loaded with replacement parts. The weight of this truck is almost 23 tons!

The cars passed through the scrutineering without any problems. Thanks to hard work of the technics everything was very well prepared for installation of safety devices. After sticking the starting numbers and necessary advertisements on the cars the technical inspectors could check everything and seal part of engine.

They finished the scrutineering by going through the checkpoint. Then they moved all cars to the port which was 25 km far from here. There the cars were loaded into a container. At extra cost we could add a special hydrophobic substance to the container. It was neccesary to keep the engine and electrotecnics safe during 3 week sea-voyage.

"All French technical inspectors were very kind and the scrutineering were going on in friendly atmosphere. Director of Dakar 2009 Etienne Lavigne spent also some time in nice interview with us" notes M. Zapletal.

An unfortunate incident happened our caravan was broken into. Our team found out that GPS navigation was lost and also some credit cards. Further a front-door lock was damaged. So Mirek Zapletal will have a lot to do after returning to Czech republic (buy the new GPS, block the account and exchange of lock). After more than 1700km we are finally back at home. Now we have some free time. however our team will do some interviews and photography very soon. .
