 | Dakar 2010: Marc Coma suffers mechanical problems in SS3.
|
AMV Team driver Marc Coma (KTM), who had passed the CP1 in the first position, was unable to continue his progression as a glitch with his KTM, forced him to stop at km 159 of the third stage connecting the two cities of La Rioja and Fiambalá. The incident caused a loss of about 20 minutes, for which fact, was only ninth on the stage ion Monday.
Frenchman Cyril Despres has claimed victory after stopping the chronometer in 3 hours 1 minute and 9 seconds. Marc, is eighth overall with a time of 9 hours 36 minutes and 8 seconds. The altitude and severe weather conditions seem to be the direct causes which have led to poor performance in most of the bikes on today's stage. Marc Coma's bike, which functioned perfectly during the early stages of the race, soon gave signs of weakness preventing exceed 60 km / h. Marc, had gone very strong and the step by CP1, had already taken more than a minute and a half difference compared to the runner.
His teammate, the great promise of the Dakar, Jordi Viladoms had worse luck, and a vacuum carburization, which prevented him from being able to negotiate passage through an area rather complicated, it led to a dramatic fall which made him fly over his mount . In a first moment, Viladoms returned to the wheel of his KTM with the intention to stay out but, from dizzy spells first, and subsequent shortness of breath, forcing the pilot to be immediately transported to the medical center Fiambalá camp, where has been addressed quickly by the medical services of the organization. His condition is not serious, just had large bruises and right now he is making a general checkup.
Today's stage, connecting the cities of La Rioja and Fiambalá features become the first touch of the pilots with the coveted white sand dunes. A first part winding, challenging tracks and outside large sailing skills have tested the reliability of the bikes and skills of its pilots. The team has not had the luck today would have deserved and after separation from Jordi Viladoms and technical problems with its KTM riders AMV at the moment are working, along with his mechanics, in order to find the precious solutions.
Marc Coma, despite mechanical problems awaiting him, left the city of La Rioja prepared to cut differences with the front riders, and he did, because in CP1, located at km 74 of the stage, it saw him coming as caretaker leader. The strong pace going forward he displayed at km 182, the final stage today, but mechanical problems with his KTM at first seem carburetion or fuel, undermined its progression, so that had to be treated by the French Casteu, in a first moment, unable to escape, then the inevitable loss of 20 precious minutes.
Marc Coma: "If the penalty for what we got yesterday is difficult, imagine now. It is a pity that the technical problems we become even more our ambitions but more important is to find a quick solution to the problem because, now, completely unknown to what has been the cause that generated the lower engine performance. It appears there may be an issue but we must analyze in detail carburetion. We is complicating the matter but that does not mean that from today we throw in the towel, much less! We simply must focus on day to day, create short-term goals and surely things will go forward. Today was a perfect day to make a difference, one of these days they serve to motivate us even more, but unfortunately mechanics was not on our side. Tomorrow we will go with the same desire as always, only a little more retarded...
