 | Dakar 2010: The Adventures of the Czech Dakar Team in South America.
|
Rally Dakar 2010 confirmed that cooperation within such a big team like the Czech Dakar Team can work and moreover to be very beneficial. Although the team was facing various problems with engines since the very beginning of the rally, overall results were still very good.
Everything started just before departure to Le Havre port, when engine in the fast assistance Tatra truck failed. First situation Czech Dakar Team was facing to after arrival at Buenos Aires was boiling engine of the local bus used for transport from airport to the hotel.
Engine of the green Tatra truck driven by Marek Spacil did not survive stage 6 after several good performances in previous days. Also bíker Martin Macek did not finish the rally due problems with engine as well as 2nd yellow Tatra with Martin Kolomy behind the wheel. Engine of Nissan Patrol press car died as well. It is not surprise that engine of the bus almost collapsed on the way to the airport. Inglorious engines!
As the largest Czech team Czech Dakar Team passed Rally Dakar 2010 quite successfully and made a few good results that are worth of attention.
The only car with a Czech crew at the finish
2nd start at Dakar Rally ended for Viktor Chytka and Jiri Janecek as a great success. Trainee solicitor Chytka together with councilor of a Prague city Janecek completed the rally as the sole Czech car from four starters.
"We desired it very much," described his feelings Jiri Janecek. "What we achieved stands for a hundred percent success. Last year we were lucky, but we still had to finish alone. This year was even more difficult and organizers did not forgive anything to anyone. It proves that our result was not coincidence and that it was really deserved."
Viktor Chytka with Jiri Janecek finished in the overall standings at 41st position, at the 6th place within its production cars (T2) and at the 4th position in the category of serial diesel cars.
Brazina finished fifth Dakar
Oldrich Brazina was very lucky while crossing the finish line. "I'm glad to be here," A few moments after Brazina left the final ramp he described his feelings: "This year it was in many ways very difficult and boring rally. It is very difficult to race under such a circumstances. I am convinced that it was possible to prepare more demanding route, but still entertaining for competitors. Indeed it would be much better for everyone."
What was this year's Dakar from the perspective of the competitor who has finished his fifth Dakar? "This year was much different, but it is rather my feeling or it has to do something with my age. I spent a lot of time by repairing my quad, so I do not know much about things which were happening around me."
Krejci won the Marathon category
After Martin Macek finished his way through the rally Roman Krejci became the most successful biker under the flag of the Czech Dakar Team. His Dakar debut finished as a great success. "My goal prior the Dakar was to finish the rally. As soon as I was there I was trying to push for good result."
Is it possible that Roman will compete again next year? "It is really premature question at this moment. I need to return at home and think about everything. On the other hand it does not mean no," says Krejci. "Now I know better what the Dakar is about and how to prepare for it."
Jan Vesely has accomplished his dream
Jan Vesely arrived to the final ramp alone, took a commemorative plaque, shook hand with organizers, waved to cameras and towards spectators and left towards another fate. What does the Dakar mean for 38 years old biker? "I spent last nine months of my life with preparation for the Dakar so I do not know much about what happened meantime at my home, in the company so you can imagine my feelings."
Jan Vesely admires virtually everyone who finished the rally: "I treat every single biker who finished the Dakar as winner. Even greater tribute belongs to girls who finished the rally."
