|Dakar Rally 2013: Last-year truck winner Gerard De Rooy loses lot of time.|
For the moment, Dutch truck-winner Gerard de Rooy has lost his leading position in the truck league of the 2013 Dakar Rally. De Rooy lost 26 precious minutes in the 4th stage because of 2 flat tyres, getting lost and getting stuck. De Rooy finished 7th.
"It wasn´t my day; not at all" reported De Rooy. "Early in the stage we got stuck in the dunes. Really stuck. We waited for about 10 minutes for Biasion who helped us out. After that we got lost. We were looking for a waypoint which didn´t come. When we drove back I had the first flat tyre. A bit later, I had my second one. Everybody passed us by. From that point onwards, I had to take it easy to avoid a 3rd one."
Hans Stacey also knew a bad day. He made a few nasty smacks and suffers from pain in his neck. He lost also some time when he helped Miki back up. As he didn´t get this time back, he finished 3rd which gave him a better position in the general rankings.
"I drove a while behind Gerard after he got stuck but I couldn´t keep up with him. We made a few nasty smacks that I felt in my neck. That´s why I slowed down. A bit later I saw Gerard again after he got lost. After that I had to pull up Miki. He tumbled a few times and was badly damaged but he was able to go on" said Hans Stacey, winner of the Dakar Rally 2007.
René Kuipers had quite a good day with only one flat tyre. According his navigator Moi Torrallardona, a lot of cars and trucks were standing in the feshfesh with cooling problems.
"It certainly was a tough day" reported Moi Torrallardona. "I expect many competitors to drop out today. Especially the first part was difficult, with dunes and feshfesh. The second part was a stony one in the middle of a mine area. That´s where Miki waited for us. Hans Stacey pulled him up already and he needed spare parts to go on. We couldn´t help him with that. At the end of the stage we had a flat tyre and that cost us some time to change, but in general we did a good job. I think René can be proud today."
