Quad-rider Ignacio Flores Seminario from Peru is the first stagewinner of the 2013 Dakar Rally at 06:40 PM CET. He won the today´s prologue special in 9:22 minutes.
Seminario now has a overall 11-second lead over the Sebastian Husseini (Holland). Marcos Patronelli came in third, 15 seconds down on the best time, followed by Ignacio Casale (+20), Kees Koolen (+39), Tomás Maffei (+40), Alexis Hernández (+42), Rafał Sonik (+43), Sebastián Palma (+49) and Gaston Gonzales (+52),
On midday the participants started with the official start ceremony in Lima. Today's prologue-stage was 263 km long - a 250 km linking section and a 13 km special in the environs of Pisco.
These early dune stages are gruelling and could very well witness dramatic turns of events in an edition which the leading pundits expect to be amazing.
"This special was more of a warm-up, coming at the end of what was a jaw-dropping link section along the Pacific coast" reported Quad-rider Camélia Liparoti. "And then there was this short 13-kilometre special around the dunes. Nothing really difficult, but I saw a few people getting stuck!"
183 motorcycles, 38 quads, 153 cars and 75 trucks were officially cleared to start the 2013 Dakar this morning. At 449 vehicles, this edition's contingent is slightly bigger (six vehicles) than the last one's.
