|Dakar Rally 2014: Chinese Dongfeng truck Challenge crew reached camp Salta|
The sixth stage on Friday was 90 per cent characterized by special stages that went northwards up to the last point in Argentina that the event reaches. Most of these roads went through Tucumán a small and tiny province where the previous arid landscape suddenly switched to formidable greenery motivates their rating of "Republic’s Garden" With the largest plantations of sugar cane and citrus, tobacco and potatos Tucumán is the place where in 1816 Argentina declared its independence from the Spanish crown.
The "Dongfeng Challenge" crew remarked that the Chinese-built truck showed an exceptional turning ratio in the twisty cliff stretches left behind, where they were able to go from start to finish without selecting reverse gear even when most of the U-turns would be both narrow and tight.
Gerard de Rooy (Iveco) has been very regular and is still first among trucks with a 23:14:27 hours time. Leg 6 was won by another Dutchman, Pieter Versluis on his red MAN TGS. Recently, Dakar trucks have limited their top speed, by GPS control, to 150 km/h. Before that, the mid-engined prototypes of the leading teams could reach up to approximately 200 kmh. The measure was taken to reduce the number of accidents.
